John the Baptist. Signed and dated 1787 21 x 13 ins (53 x 32cms). Black chalk drawing on sheet of buff paper. It appears to be a preparatory study of a large scale oil painted in order to be engraved for the Macklin Bible (c1793). (Location of this drawing and related painting unknown). This painting, together with Moses showing the Brazen Serpent (also lost), may have been painted for the outer wings of a triptych centred around West’s Resurrection, now held in St George’s Parish Church, Barbados.
