It was commissioned as the altarpiece for Winchester Cathedral, Hampshire, England, where it remained 1782-1900; purchased by J. Pierpont Morgan, New York City, in 1900. Now at Wadsworth Art Museum, Hartford, Connecticut and recently restored.
