Robert Bowyer (1758-1834) expanded his own copy of the Macklin Bible to 45 volumes after acquiring and inserting over 6200 different prints of Biblical events. The Bowyer Bible is now housed in Bolton Museums and Archives. For a presentation of many of these prints see https://archive.org/details/bowyer-bible
where Philip De Vere has created flip-books from Phillip Medhurst’s collection of photos.

One of Luyken’s etchings seen in situ in his book of illustrations. The text underneath reads: “So it was, that while they were there, the days were completed for her to be delivered. And she brought forth her firstborn Son, and wrapped Him in swaddling cloths, and laid Him in a manger, because there was no room for them in the inn.”
